New Zealands Telecom revived ?

Having arrived home tonight to our Nelson city home, I discovered the phone was not working. No dial tone. Oh well, be quite nice without the phone ringing for a couple of hours. So we made the required call to partners mother so she would know to call our cell if she needed us, and settled in for the night. Discovered broadband was working, so could at least vpn to work and get email etc, as I do most nights. But come 9pm, and still no phone.

So called 123 on my vodafone cell, passed on to faults and there was no delay – thats a good start. Talked to Joey at faults, and he said he would ring me back cause it would cost me to ring them via my 021 – he rang back straight away, and he politely asked all the necessary questions and it was established that there was a fault – about 1200 phone lines in Nelson were down, and it could be until 5pm tomorrow (Thurs) before the fault was fixed.

Great!!. Hey this is 2008 I thought. Second world services in New Zealand the media have been talking about for ever. Before I had the chance to express my "delight", Joey arranged an auto divert for those calling our landline to the 021, gave instructions on how to turn off the divert when phone line was going again, and even followed up with a text with the instructions. Well done Joey and well done Telecom.

Oh yes – we are even going to get a 1 month credit on our phone bill. Did I ask for compensation? – no, it was volunteered.

After years of bad experiences with Telecom, honestly, since at least 1999 when I first had broadband installed in my Nelson office at the time, not once since has they delivered on their promises, either moving house, moving business address, and several other contacts over the years have they performed. Until tonight !!!

Has the worm turned? It looks promising.

Joey tells me he has been working for Telecom for just 4 days. The lad will go a long way if he keeps this level of service up. Thanks

Now Telecom, hurry up with that fibre to our business premises so we can have reasonable speed and I will be a very happy person.

I’ve been doing a bit of work with the management team at Telecom Business and from my experience they all have a genuine desire to turn things around. At the end of the day Telecom is a HUGE organisation and I think it’s going to come down to individuals like Joey (people that do the little things right) that will eventually turn the tide of public opinion back in Telecoms favor
