Paid search – are NZ businesses behind the 8 ball?
Posted November 15th, 2007 by peterAn interesting article came across our screen recently. According to an IAB New Zealand and Pricewaterhouse Coopers study (we could not find anything on their sites about such a study), New Zealand marketers are putting most of their advertising dollars into classified and display advertising.
Apparently in Australia online advertising spend is 46%, Uk 57% and the US is 41%. But in New Zealand it just 25% in the June quarter. The article goes on to discuss why NZ is so different.
We @ web one have not had a lot of demand from our clients to spend big on online advertising. We know that some clients are or have "dabbled" using Google adwords.
From our perspective it probably means that we do a very good job for our clients when it comes to "organic" or unpaid search engine marketing.
But that does not obviously mean that all web companies or search engine marketing specialists in NZ are also doing such a good job. Otherwise we would not be approached almost daily by businesses (in Nelson and elsewhere) to help with their search engine marketing.
You can read the story here.

Hi Peter … just stumbled across your post. For anyone interested, the study Peter refers to is a quarterly report of online advertising in New Zealand. Information on the report, and downloadable copies are available on the iab website at http://www.iab.org.nz – look under Resources – Ad Spend
