Welcome to the @ web one blog

Keywords ARE dead

I wrote an article during the week about my visit to the Small Business expo in Christchurch. In the article I discussed a conversation I had with a representative of a reasonably well known internet marketing company about website audits. During our conversation he told me how they checked that keywords in the keywords meta tag were compared with the the actual text in the page. Folly I told him – search engines take absolutely no notice of the keywords meta tag.

Since my article appeared, I have had a couple of people contact me asking for evidence of the above. Search engines don’t tell website owners exactly how they rank pages, and most of our knowledge @ web one comes from hours and hours of work each month testing, reading articles from reputable search engine optimisation practitioners, experts and advisers and written material from magazine subscriptions and more testing,
I told them. "Do your own testing I said, and you will see it is true".

During my (almost) daily search engine optimisation reading this morning, I came across a post which pretty much reinforced my convictions. There are probably 100′s of such posts out there reinforcing the above (and no doubt some that actually refute my claims), but this particular one I thought could educate our clients and budding search engine optimisation "experts".

Please read on. So, Meta Tags Are Dead ?
